I have felt I have been a photographer at heart since joining the school camera club, but like all of us life love, and marriage took precedence and I never held a camera until many years later, when I was forty I bought a Nikon D40. I hadn't a clue about Digital, made all the errors, I learned by study and practice. At 66 I retired and made Photography my full-time occupation In 2016 I won the first prize in a local challenge cup competition.
In 2017 I had the opportunity to open my own studio and built a good reputation for having pleasing portfolios for students, actors, budding models, and those who wanted to improve their portfolios. I went on to win a place in a national competition and won a holiday in Turkey. When the pandemic and lockdown came I was forced to close the studio in December 2019,
So I had to reassess which direction my photography was to go and in 2021 I took my portfolio to a leading magazine journalist for appraisal, she said the work was very good but not commercial so went away had a rethink, and decided to go to college and study photography in depth. I used the last few years to improve my understanding of the art of photography. This has opened a new way of thinking about photography and interest in analog. I now shoot in both digital full frame, 35mm and 120 mm film 🎞 I have a darkroom to do all my own film-developing.
